Horsetail is a perennial herbaceous plant. It can be found already in early spring, when brownish shoots with spore-bearing spikelets appear from the rhizome. Then, in place of the spikelets, green stems grow with whorled side branches, similar to panicles. It is these green stems that are used for medicinal purposes.
